日本では良い木材を得るには「木が眠っている」時に伐採するのが当たり前でした。木が眠るとは、春夏の成長期が終わり、長い冬が始まる11月、12月のことです。つまりこの頃の下弦の月から新月に至る１週間程の期間に伐採された木は、最高の「新月の木」になります。 　月のリズムがつくる「新月の木」は、腐らない、反らない、虫がつかない、火が燃え付かない、室内の空気を浄化し、シックハウスにならない。そして何百年も使え、日本の山林を回復させることにもなるというのです。
